Drug repurposing is the process of identifying new therapeutic applications for drugs already approved for other indications. This research field and methodological approach investigates novel pharmacological properties and clinical utilities of existing compounds to accelerate the discovery and development of new treatments with potentially reduced time and cost compared to de novo drug discovery.
